VIDEO: 'I Will Speak as Much as I Consider Right' - Debate Among KP Members
The Permanent Committee on Defense and Security of the National Assembly discussed today a bill proposed by MP Hayk Sargsyan from the 'Civil Contract' faction, which suggests exempting the brother of a deceased soldier from military service.
During the committee meeting, Sargsyan noted that there are cases where the younger brothers of soldiers who have died as a result of the war are subject to mandatory military service since they are not the sole male heir of the family. However, these families face serious psychological issues and do not wish, for instance, to send their youngest son to military service.
“I have informed the Prime Minister about this issue, and we have had discussions. The Prime Minister has instructed the Ministry of Defense to discuss this and find a solution together. After a year, an idea has emerged to present such legislative initiative that will allow other family members of our compatriots who died in the war, namely the son or brother of the deceased, to be exempted from military service,” said Sargsyan.
Hayk Sargsyan also added that the conscript may refuse this exemption and choose to serve in the military.
