David Tonoyan's Legal Team Issues Statement

The former Minister of Defense of Armenia, David Tonoyan's legal team has issued a statement which notably mentions:

“We announce that the court hearing regarding the criminal case against David Tonoyan and other individuals is scheduled for February 28, 2022, at 16:00. Additionally, the date for the hearing of our appeal against the decision to keep David Tonoyan in pretrial detention at the Court of Appeals has been set for February 28, 2022, at 13:00.

David Tonoyan and his defense team will continue to demand an open and public trial during the scheduled court session, based on previous assertions regarding the absence of information containing state and military secrets in the materials of the criminal case.

Taking into account that the statements made by David Tonoyan and his lawyers have led to various interpretations, including assumptions regarding 'transactions-offers', we wish to draw everyone's attention to the illegal persecution and detention of D. Tonoyan, clarifying the objective reality of the case, and highlighting the inaction of the prosecuting authority, and also the legitimacy of the arms procurement transaction under scrutiny.

During his tenure as Minister of Defense, Tonoyan has acted solely within the framework of his powers and has carried out only legal actions. In the near future, the legal team plans to hold a press conference, the details of which will be announced subsequently.”
