Baku is in a Hysteria: The Use of the Term 'Eastern Armenia' by the Russian Foreign Ministry is Unacceptable to Them

Azerbaijan is not pleased with the use of the term 'Eastern Armenia' in an official statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry commented on the distorted information regarding the 'Treaty of Turkmenchay' published on the RF Ministry's website. The commentary states that the publication of incorrect information about the 'Treaty of Turkmenchay' causes surprise and disappointment, according to Azerbaijani media.

Authorities in Azerbaijan are particularly angered by the fact that the Russian Foreign Ministry's statement commemorating the 194th anniversary of the 'Treaty of Turkmenchay' mentions that the treaty granted Russia the khanates of Yerevan and Nakhchivan, referred to as Eastern Armenia.

It is 'remarkable and regrettable that the information regarding the 1828 Treaty of Turkmenchay was published on the official social media page of the Russian Federation's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the day of signing the declaration of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation, February 22,' the publication states.

The term 'Eastern Armenia' is not mentioned in the text of the aforementioned treaty, and that fact is certainly well-known to the Department of Historical Documents of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We consider it necessary to rectify the misunderstanding and expect a corresponding correction of the information presented on the official page of the Russian Foreign Ministry,' the publication notes.
