UEFA Responds to Potential Move of Champions League Final from Russia

UEFA asserts that, against the backdrop of the threat of war between Russia and Ukraine, there are no plans to move this season's Champions League final from Saint Petersburg.

“UEFA is closely monitoring the situation. Currently, there are no plans to change the venue for the match,” UEFA stated in a press release.

It is worth mentioning that just yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence and sovereignty of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics. According to Putin’s decree, Russian troops will undertake peacekeeping duties there.

The current season's Champions League final is scheduled for May 28 at the Gazprom Arena Stadium in Saint Petersburg. Earlier, international media reported that amid the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, UEFA may have no option but to change the final's venue. Among the possible alternative locations mentioned was London’s Wembley Stadium.
