How Political Circles in Turkey Respond to Russia's Decision
Turkish media and political circles continue to discuss Russia's decision to recognize the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. In addition to the Turkish president and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives from various political forces have also reacted to Russia's decision.
Specifically, the president of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Devlet Bahceli, noted that this decision has further escalated the situation. According to him, Russia has "poured oil on the fire" with this move.
Also responding was Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the leader of the main opposition party, the Republican People's Party (CHP). He stated that war brings no benefit to the region, saying, "The whole world is watching the crisis surrounding Ukraine today. We do not want war in our region. A war in the region would cause great harm to Turkey."
Meanwhile, Bulent Turan, the deputy leader of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), stated, “Respect must be shown for Ukraine's territorial integrity.”
