Azerbaijanis Open Fire: Agricultural Machinery Unable to Enter Fields of Artsakh's Haci Village, Says Community Head
In the Haci community of the Martuni region, which became border-adjacent due to Azerbaijani aggression in 2020, the spring sowing works have not yet started. Agricultural machinery cannot enter the area as Azerbaijanis are either firing or threatening to shoot.
As community head Santur Sargsyan told "Factinfo" in an interview, part of the arable land has fallen under enemy control, while the overwhelming majority, around 90 percent, is directly targeted by Azerbaijani soldiers.
"About 40 hectares of arable land, where we used to plant wheat and barley, is not being cultivated at all now. It’s right next to the border. The farmland and farms belonging to the village, where people used to work, are under direct enemy fire. That’s why people are selling their livestock. If in 2020 there were 244 heads of large cattle in the village, now only 140 remain. The number continues to decrease as, after becoming border-adjacent, people cannot keep livestock," Santur Sargsyan told "Factinfo".
According to him, pastures are also under direct enemy fire. In just the last few days, three large cattle have crossed the border. During the war, as Mr. Sargsyan notes, the community lost 28 heads of large cattle, 15 of which crossed to the Azerbaijani side, while the rest were hit by Azerbaijani shelling.
When shots are fired from the Azerbaijani positions near Haci village, they are clearly audible in the village. The community head states that naturally, security issues are the primary concern for the villagers. The Azerbaijani position is located about 900 meters away from the houses.
