Armenia Discovers Omicron Variant BA.2: What Are the Implications?
Armenia has reported the discovery of the BA.2 subvariant of the Omicron variant. This information comes from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia.
The results of sequencing conducted jointly by the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health, the Institute of Molecular Biology of the National Academy of Sciences, and the Russian-Armenian University have shown that the Omicron variant of COVID-19, including the BA.2 subvariant, is currently circulating in Armenia.
According to scientists, BA.2 is more infectious than previous subvariants and, according to several studies, may lead to more severe disease progression.
