Anna Kostanyan: 'They Have Decided to Close the Yeghgnadzor Branch of HPU, the Only University in Vayots Dzor'
Former MP Anna Kostanyan writes: 'Supposedly, the situation of education in the regions was so good, and now they have decided to close the Yeghgnadzor branch of HPU, the only university in Vayots Dzor.'
Former, current, and future students of the university have appealed to the rector of HPU regarding the suspension of admissions for the 2022-2023 academic year at the branch. Like any other decision, this has not undergone proper public discussion and no substantial reasoning has been provided as to why the only university in the region should be closed, which would contribute to the migration of the young population of Vayots Dzor to Yerevan.
Instead of implementing contrasting reforms, relieving Yerevan, and relocating some universities to the regions within the framework of promised development reforms, they are closing the only university in the region, increasing the overcrowding in Yerevan.
'Only a very small percentage of those who receive education in Yerevan return to the regions, whereas most of our graduates find work right in their native region, preventing the outflow of valuable human resources.' This is how the young people of the region think, while those seated above do not even understand half of this or do not want to understand.'
