VIDEO: Floods in Brazil, Death Toll Reaches 94
The death toll from heavy rains and subsequent flooding in the city of Petropolis, Brazil has reached 94, including 8 children. Emergency services have managed to rescue 24 individuals, while another 35 are considered missing.
Approximately 400 rescuers, 200 police officers, as well as military personnel and volunteers are involved in the search and rescue operations. Rio de Janeiro's governor, Claudio Castro, announced that this has been the heaviest rain since 1932, describing the disaster as "historical".
Petropolis has recorded over 170 landslides, with 80 residential buildings damaged or destroyed. A state of emergency has been declared in the city.
