Azerbaijanis Have Prevented Khnabadi Residents from Cultivating Land, Threatened to Open Fire if They Do

Azerbaijani soldiers deployed in the administrative territory of the village of Khnabadi in the Askeran region have prevented local residents from cultivating their land. Samvel Shahramanyan, the head of the Khnabadi community, stated in an interview with Factinfo.

The village head noted that they are currently unsure how to cultivate the orchards near the border. “The village had only 670 hectares of arable land, part of which has come under their control due to Azerbaijani aggression, while 170 hectares have not been allowed to be cultivated since last autumn. The Russian peacekeepers were told, ‘Go inform them that they should not cultivate the land, or else we will shoot.’ The Russians came and conveyed their message, and thus the autumn planting failed,” he explained.

According to the community leader, a representative of the peacekeeping mission has met with the villagers regarding this issue 4-5 times, and has also met with the Azerbaijanis, but there have been no results. “The peacekeepers’ representative came and said, ‘What can we do? They do not allow you to work, they say it is their land. If they want, they will let you cultivate it; if they do not want, they will not allow it,’” Shahramanyan stated.
