"Lukashenko's, in a metaphorical sense, teeth must be broken": RPA MP

“Alexander Lukashenko's statement has thrown the authorities into a severe frenzy. While Azerbaijani President Aliyev makes even more humiliating statements, there is zero response. Why?” We tried to get an answer to this question from the ruling party’s MP, Gagik Melkonyan, who once again referred to Lukashenko.

The “Iravunk” newspaper writes: “You know, everyone has their own way of thinking, and it is not the first time that Lukashenko has expressed himself in such a way towards Armenia; he is simply elevating his status and role. But he forgets that he is despised by his own people, especially since his behavior was fully revealed during the last elections. I have never seen a president of a country emerge into the crowd with an automatic weapon, dressed in special forces uniform, and go towards his people with the army. He is the one who came out with a weapon against his own people; what kind of a man is this? I do not take his words seriously at all.”

“Mr. Melkonyan, but the Armenian Prime Minister's security also held an automatic weapon over the crowd gathered in Baghramyan?”

“That is just one of the freaks of the opposition who has been circulated. If they really care about this country, why did they not respond to Lukashenko? Why did they not react? On the contrary, they say, ‘Lukashenko had an automatic, yours had it too.’ Can security personnel attack them with automatic weapons? But they did showcase it from the car window, right?”

“Good on them, what a thing, if a person has an automatic weapon, it shows, doesn’t it? But the automatic was aimed at the people.”

“According to them, it didn’t happen that way, that’s it!”

“Mr. Melkonyan, Aliyev also frequently makes similar and even more humiliating statements against Armenia. Why do his statements not receive the same response?”

“Well, you know, Aliyev and Erdogan have been saying such things for years, and we keep saying the opposite. We can’t say the same thing every day; we have immunity against Aliyev’s air-dropped insults, but Lukashenko's, in a metaphorical sense, teeth must be broken so that he does not dare to make such statements against us again. It was simply a novelty for Lukashenko, which the Armenian nation quickly put in its place, so let’s end this topic.”

“Well, what awaits the Armenian people?”

“Right now, the most difficult moment is demarcation and delimitation. Once that process starts and concludes, everything will settle in our country, and there will be peace. We are now prepared for the demarcation and delimitation work; we only suggested that the troops pull back mirror-like for the process to go smoothly. They considered it a precondition or something, and that’s why it’s still dragging on.”

“And what will happen to the fate of Artsakh? Is it possible that in the end, Artsakh will be part of Azerbaijan?”

“I don’t think such a thing can happen. We want Minsk Group co-chairs to start their work. Thus, do you exclude that as a result of a peace agreement, Artsakh could end up part of Azerbaijan?”

“Well, at least, Hadrut and Shushi cannot be included in the agreement; I can’t predict anything more at this time.”
