Azerbaijani Citizens Own at Least 6 Properties in Armenia: Details

From 2010 to 2021, there were 6 transactions for the state registration of property rights by Azerbaijani citizens in Armenia. This was revealed by the State Committee of the Real Estate Cadastre of Armenia in response to a written inquiry from Sputnik Armenia.

In 2012, individuals holding Azerbaijani citizenship purchased 2 apartments, with one being received as a gift. Following that, in 2018, a contract for the sale of an apartment was signed. In 2019, two contracts were concluded: one related to the sale of an apartment, and the other concerning the acquisition of property of public importance. However, details about the types of properties acquired by Azerbaijani citizens in Armenia remain unclear.

It is also worth noting that the aforementioned individuals hold Azerbaijani citizenship, rather than ethnic Azerbaijani identification. Therefore, it cannot be claimed that they are of Azerbaijani ethnicity.

Meanwhile, the cadastre committee also reported that from 2010 to 2021, Turkish nationals (individuals) purchased 71 properties in Armenia. No transactions for state registration of property rights were recorded under the names of legal entities registered in Turkey and Azerbaijan during the same period.

The first transaction for property acquisition within the mentioned timeframe occurred in 2011 when an individual holding Turkish citizenship purchased a residential house. The highest number of transactions took place in 2019 when individuals holding Turkish citizenship bought 12 apartments, 2 residential houses, 3 properties of public importance, and 1 plot of land.

In total, individuals holding Turkish citizenship purchased 53 apartments, received 1 apartment as a gift, exchanged 1, bought 5 residential houses, 1 garage, 7 properties of public importance, and 3 plots of land in Armenia from 2010 to 2021. The last transaction with Turkish nationals took place in 2021, where 8 apartments were purchased.

It is recalled that on February 3, following a government meeting, Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan stated that in recent years, Turks have acquired real estate and companies in Armenia. The minister assured that strategic important objects are not included in this list, emphasizing that Armenia's economy has always been open to Turkey in this regard.
