VIDEO: We are leaving the hall now: The first session of the commission did not go smoothly
The first session of the National Assembly investigative commission examining the circumstances of the 44-day war has begun.
MP Tigran Abrahamyan from the "I Have Honor" faction announced that the opposition will not participate in the commission's activities, as the government claims to be responsible for the situation created as a result of the war, and under these circumstances, the commission's work led by the authorities cannot be objective.
"Revealing the circumstances of the 44-day war continues to be one of our priorities, but we believe that the work should be carried out when this government is no longer in power," he stated.
MP Gegham Nazaryan from the "Armenia" faction also announced that they will not participate in the commission's activities. "One of my main goals is to reveal the circumstances of this war, but the problem is that the political force that led the country during the war is constrained under the leadership of this force to reveal the whole truth," he noted.
Another MP from the "Armenia" faction, Gegham Manukyan, mentioned that an objective investigation is only possible when the majority of the investigative commission does not belong to the political force under whose rule the war was unleashed.
Opposition MPs left the hall.
The chair of the defense and security committee, Andranik Kocharyan, announced that the opposition has nothing to say. "They came and left with their heads down. Whoever it is, Gegham Nazaryan should have participated. Robert Kocharyan did not allow our opposition colleagues to come with open faces and ask any official the questions they are interested in. This already speaks to the quality of the opposition we have," Kocharyan remarked.
It should be reminded that the Armenian authorities have created an investigative commission regarding the issues of the 44-day war. The National Assembly's "Armenia" and "I Have Honor" factions have announced that they will not participate in the commission's activities. According to the opposition, "the investigative commission on the war issues is meant to stage the 'innocence' of the authorities."
