Change in Expiration Date of Unopened Moderna Vials, Reports Ministry of Health

The expiration date of the Spikevax vaccine produced by Moderna (formerly known as the COVID-19 Vaccine Moderna) was initially established at seven months after its first use authorization. However, the manufacturer continued stability studies and noted that quality parameters remain unchanged for an additional two months, according to the Ministry of Health of Armenia.

This information has also been accepted by the competent authorities that granted the vaccine’s use authorization (WHO, USA, EU) as a post-authorization amendment.

As a result, the expiration date of unopened Spikevax vials has been changed from seven months to nine months when stored at temperatures between -25ºC and -15ºC. Additionally, it has been decided to extend the two-month extension to batches produced until February 2022, which applies to vaccines available in all countries, including Armenia.
