WADA to Investigate People Surrounding Figure Skater Valieva
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) will investigate the individuals surrounding Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. This was reported by Reuters.
The anti-doping organization's investigative unit will initiate proceedings against coaches, doctors, and other adults associated with the 15-year-old athlete, WADA informed Reuters. Previously, an investigation against Valieva's entourage had already begun by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA).
On Friday, the International Testing Agency announced that the medal ceremony for the team figure skating event at the Beijing Olympics was postponed due to Valieva's positive doping test result. On February 8, RUSADA imposed a provisional suspension on the figure skater.
WADA, the International Olympic Committee, and the International Skating Union have filed complaints against RUSADA's disciplinary committee's decision to lift the provisional suspension to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Hearings regarding the case will begin on February 13 at 15:30 Moscow time, and the decision of the CAS visiting commission will be communicated to the parties after noon on February 14.
