Levon Aronian Wins Semi-Final of Grand Prix
Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian, representing the United States, triumphed over Leinier Dominguez in the first game of the semi-finals of FIDE's Grand Prix series.
The Aronian-Dominguez match concluded in favor of the Armenian chess player after 41 moves, with Aronian playing as White. This victory marked a significant step towards reaching the finals of the series' first tournament. To secure his spot in the final, a draw in the second game, scheduled for this evening, would suffice.
The tournament in Berlin features 16 participants divided into four groups. Aronian is in Group C, where his competitors include German Vincent Keymer, Indian Santosh Vidit, and Russian Daniil Dubov. During the group phase, the chess players have competed in six rounds.
This is the first of three tournaments in the Grand Prix series. A total of 24 chess players will take part in the Grand Prix, with 16 participants in each phase.
