Pentagon Denies: No American Submarine in Russian Waters
The U.S. Navy submarine has not been found in Russian territorial waters near the Kuril Islands, according to the Pentagon.
“Russia's claims that we are conducting operations in its territorial waters are unfounded,” said U.S. Indo-Pacific Command spokesman Kyle Raines to TASS.
Furthermore, the U.S. Department of Defense had previously confirmed that authorities are aware of the situation involving an American nuclear submarine near the Kuril mountain range, but declined to provide details on the incident.
Raines also refused to answer questions about the specific location of American submarines, stating that the U.S. “conducts flights, maritime operations, and operates safely in international waters.”
Earlier, on February 12, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that a U.S. Virginia-class submarine had entered Russian territorial waters near the Kuril Islands.
