Azerbaijan's Colonel Arrested for Large-Scale Embezzlement

The State Security Service of Azerbaijan has arrested Colonel Rafael Khalafov, the head of the financial department of the Ministry of Defense, according to Azerbaijani media reports.

The Sabail District Court has placed him in custody for four months.

Khalafov has been charged under Article 179.4 of the Criminal Code (large-scale embezzlement). Specifically, he is suspected of embezzling over half a million manats (approximately $300,000).
