US State Department Advises Americans in Ukraine to Leave the Country

The State Department has included Ukraine in its "red list" of countries to which travel is discouraged. This is reported by Kommersant.ru.

The agency has urged all Americans in Ukraine to leave the country immediately. This decision is explained by the threat of "large-scale military operations" by Russia. President Joe Biden has also called for urgent departures.

The alert was published on the State Department's website on February 10. It states that travel to Ukraine is not recommended due to the coronavirus and the "increased threat of Russian military operations."

"All Americans in the country should leave immediately," the document states.

The State Department believes that Russia may begin military operations "at any moment and without warning," which "seriously affects the ability of the U.S. embassy to provide consular services."

"Reports continue to receive about the buildup of Russian troops along the border with Ukraine, indicating the possibility of large-scale military operations against Ukraine. Security conditions... are unpredictable and may deteriorate sharply. Throughout Ukraine, including Kyiv, protests are taking place regularly, which sometimes escalate into violence," the press release states.
