NATO May Deploy Combat Groups in the Black Sea Region: What Developments to Expect
NATO is considering the possibility of deploying military groups in Romania. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. According to ria.ru, he said, “We are currently exploring the possibility of a long-term presence of the alliance in the southeast. We already have combat groups in the Baltic States and Poland. We are looking into the possibility of deploying similar groups in the Black Sea region of Romania,” during a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The NATO leader also added that today, the Ukrainian army is much better prepared than it was in 2014. Stoltenberg noted that the UK and other alliance members are providing support to Ukraine's defense forces so that they can protect themselves, which is the right of every nation.
In recent months, the West has accused Moscow of preparing for an “invasion” of Ukraine and is enhancing its presence in Eastern Europe. Russia rejects all theses, emphasizing that troops are being relocated within its territorial borders and also reminding that it is not involved in the internal Ukrainian conflict and does not violate any agreements, unlike Kyiv, which does not adhere to the Minsk agreements.
The document requires the implementation of constitutional reforms, a ceasefire, and the withdrawal of heavy weapons from the contact line.
