Mass Torture of Soldiers: Arrests Made in Azerbaijan's 'Tartar Case'
The General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan has called on individuals who have been subjected to torture, physical or psychological pressure within the framework of the 'Tartar Case,' according to EaDaily.com.
In a statement from the law enforcement agency's press service, it is mentioned: "We request individuals who were subjected to torture, physical or psychological pressure, other illegal actions, and were unlawfully deprived of their freedom during the investigation of treason facts in May-June 2017, but have not been recognized as victims, to contact the General Prosecutor's call center at 961 and come to provide testimony."
It is also noted that four individuals who tortured soldiers of the Republic have been arrested in connection with the 'Tartar Case': Vusal Aziz oglu Alekperov, Rustam Cherkez oglu Alekperov, and Ramil Fariz oglu Garayev. "Pre-trial detention has been chosen as a measure of restraint for these citizens by the court's decision."
"During the investigation, it was revealed that individual servicemen were subjected to torture, illegal detention, and abuse of power," the General Prosecutor's Office reports.
On November 1, 2021, for the first time in a long time, the military prosecutor of Azerbaijan, Justice Lieutenant General Khanlar Veliev, spoke about the 'Tartar Case.' This refers to the torture of hundreds of the country's servicemen on suspicion of treason between May and June 2017, which resulted in at least 11 deaths at that time. They were taken to an old administrative building in the Tartar region and forced to confess through torture that they had spied for Armenia.
Mass torture of soldiers in Azerbaijan followed the April War (April 2-5, 2016).
