African Swine Fever Outbreak Registered Near Kyiv

An outbreak of African swine fever has been registered in the Obukhiv district of Kyiv region, specifically on a hunting farm. Inspectors at the farm discovered two dead wild boars, and subsequent investigations confirmed the diagnosis of African swine fever. Quarantine restrictions have been imposed in the region, as reported by iz.ru on February 9, according to the press service of the regional administration.

African swine fever is a highly contagious viral disease. It was first recorded in South Africa in 1903. The virus can survive in pig carcasses for up to 2.5 months and in processed meats and sausages for up to 6 months. It poses no danger to humans.
