Large Number of Children Not Attending School Due to Epidemic

As of now, 1,563 children in Armenia are not attending school or preschool institutions due to illness. This was stated by Romella Abovyan, head of the Infectious and Non-infectious Disease Epidemiology Department at the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia, during a conversation with reporters.

According to her, the absences are caused by both coronavirus infections as well as flu and RSV. All three groups of diseases are currently targeting children aged 0-18 and present with almost the same symptoms.

The expert noted that in Yerevan, the number of absentees due to illness has reached 1,098. Many schools switch to remote learning fully or partially when the absence rate among students reaches 10 percent.

It is noteworthy that, due to the epidemic, 108 schools in Armenia have applied to the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports for organizing classes fully or partially online. About 48 schools have requested to switch to completely remote classes, while others will conduct classes partially online. This means that not all classes will have remote lessons.
