The Process of Appointing Tigran Avinyan as Shadow Mayor Was not Smooth: 'Hraparak'

According to the newspaper 'Hraparak', the process of appointing Tigran Avinyan as deputy mayor, essentially a shadow mayor, has not been smooth. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan avoided making a unilateral decision to refrain from offending his loyal ally Khachatur Sukiasyan, whose dream was to hold that position. Instead, Avinyan's candidacy was put to the board meeting of the 'Civil Contract' party.

In line with the established tradition, the members of the ruling party did not miss the opportunity to criticize their teammate. During the online meeting, they took turns denouncing Avinyan, recalling both old and new accusations, and presenting counterarguments against his appointment. The situation became tense enough that Pashinyan had to intervene and put the issue to a vote.

Despite this, Avinyan's nomination received six votes against it from the party's board. The candidates for deputy mayors were not put to a vote, as Avinyan personally selected them. Therefore, the actual governance of the city will soon be transferred to Avinyan, while Hrachya Sargsyan will remain as a mere figurehead.
