Putin Offers Asylum to Poroshenko: What Was Poroshenko's Response?

The former president of Ukraine and current member of the Verkhovna Rada, Petro Poroshenko, has responded to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s offer to grant him asylum on humanitarian grounds, stating that Ukraine will "manage on its own." This information was reported by RIA Novosti.

Poroshenko believes that by pursuing criminal charges against him, the current president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, is doing a "favor to Putin." He expressed this sentiment on his Telegram channel. Poroshenko urged the Ukrainian leader to focus efforts on the country’s defense.

“I also call on Vladimir Vladimirovich to finally accept that we will manage on our own here in Ukraine. The Russian practice of constantly 'taking care' of Ukrainian politics and politicians ended a long time ago, back when I was elected president of Ukraine,” Poroshenko wrote.

Following a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Moscow, Vladimir Putin told reporters that he had offered political asylum to Poroshenko and is willing to do so now "not because he liked or likes his political agenda, but for humanitarian reasons."

It should be noted that former president Petro Poroshenko is suspected of state treason and supporting terrorism in relation to coal supplies from Donbas, facing up to 15 years in prison.
