I Use Public Transport on Weekends: Mayor Talks About Transportation
There were some questions regarding the technical maintenance of the newly acquired buses, which delayed their operation slightly. Aside from the convenience for citizens, there will not be any significant changes, but at the same time, we will announce a tender to utilize those removed buses on other routes, and this will be much faster. This statement was made by Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan during a session of the City Council, in response to comments regarding the poor state of transportation.
The mayor noted that by the beginning of March, the program for acquiring 12-meter long buses funded by the European Union and supported by the Government will be in the final stage, and they will be in Armenia by the end of 2020. “Simultaneously, we are conducting various negotiations to ensure that the next batch is also based in Yerevan,” said the mayor, who added, “I use public transport myself on weekends, and I see for myself that we have citizens waiting at our stops, and the transport is delayed.” He apologized to the citizens and assured them that work is being done.
