Attempted Murder in Armavir Prison; Suspect Brutally Kills Flower Shop Employee in Yerevan

On February 6th, in the quarantine section of the Armavir correctional facility, a 30-year-old inmate named Arman Harutyunyan, who was sentenced to two months of detention by the Yerevan City Court, attempted to carry out a murder while using the pretext of making a phone call.

Harutyunyan, who is facing charges under Article 104, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, requested an officer from the security department, a captain, to take him out of his cell so he could make a phone call. The captain complied and escorted him out. However, before reaching the phone, Harutyunyan attacked the captain with a metallic piercing object that he had previously taken from his cell, striking him on the head from behind. He then began to punch various parts of the captain's body and attempted to choke him.

According to Shamshyan.com, fortunately, the attempt was thwarted by the swift actions of correctional facility staff, who intervened and prevented the planned crime from being completed. A criminal case has been initiated in connection with the incident under Article 34-104, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.

Sources indicate that the case has been transferred to the Investigative Committee's Vagharshapat Division in the Armavir region. Previously, Harutyunyan had brutally killed a flower shop employee in Yerevan with multiple knife wounds. When police arrested him, he reportedly said, "Unfortunately, you caught me too soon; I still had plans to hurt a few more people." © shamshyan.com More details on the website.
