Are Mercenaries from Poland Arrived in Donbas? What is the Purpose?
Military personnel from Poland have arrived in the Donbas region under the control of Kyiv. This information was announced by the special administration of the Donetsk People's Republic, as reported by RIA Novosti.
“The intelligence of the DPR people's militia has received information about the arrival of Polish mercenaries in the so-called operational zone of the Ukrainian armed forces,” a representative of the department told reporters. He clarified that two groups of armed individuals, each comprising up to 20 people in 'tactical mixed uniforms,' have been observed in the vicinity of the Popasnaya settlement.
“It was revealed that the mentioned individuals speak Polish and have arrived to fulfill tasks in the responsibility zone of the 24th mechanized brigade. Their objective is to conduct special operations in conjunction with the units of Ukrainian forces aimed at incapacitating life support facilities and social infrastructure,” the representative of the people's militia reported.
The agency believes that ahead of an attack by Ukrainian forces, the mercenaries will attempt to inflict significant damage on civilian infrastructure objects so that DPR units can respond effectively. The representative also noted that Poland's statements regarding military assistance to Kyiv are incompatible with both the presidency and Warsaw's membership in the OSCE.
He clarified that the supply of lethal weapons to Ukraine by Western countries continues, and in the agency's opinion, the actions of the Polish government seem cynical. “At the beginning of this year, when Poland took over the presidency of the OSCE, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stated that Poland would do everything for peace and security in Europe,” the agency’s representative recalled.
