Police in Yerevan Detain Son of High-Ranking Defense Ministry Officer, Lieutenant General

On February 1, police from the Patrol Service's 2nd battalion, 3rd company in Yerevan discovered illegal drugs. According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, at approximately 23:00, the patrol officers detained Yerevan residents, 36-year-old G.A. and 30-year-old D.B., on suspicion of possessing and using illegal substances near the 1st alley of Bagratuniats Avenue.

The two were in a BMW vehicle driven by G.A. At the scene, G.A. presented to the officers a used pipe with ash residues and stated that it belonged to him and was for his own use, claiming it contained marijuana.

After some time, the detainees were released. According to G. Shamshyan's reports, G.A.'s father is a high-ranking officer at the Armenian Ministry of Defense, holding the rank of lieutenant general.

Notice: A suspect in a presumed crime is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the criminal procedure code of the Republic of Armenia, by a verdict that has entered into legal force.
