We Have Lost Almost 50% of Our Forests Due to the War, Says Artsakh Minister of Territorial Administration
This year, the export of firewood has been prohibited, which has allowed for a certain slowdown in deforestation. Artsakh Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Hayk Khanumyan made this statement during a summary press conference held on February 4.
“In 2020, 77,194 cubic meters of firewood were allocated, out of which 10,300 were exported. In 2021, 32,000 cubic meters of firewood were allocated, none of which was exported. As a result of the war, we have lost almost 50% of our forests. Certain steps have been taken towards the restoration of forests, including reforestation in some areas with the support of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia. In 2022, a mapping of forest lands is planned to ensure more effective management of forest resources,” noted H. Khanumyan.
