Is it Possible to Get Infected with Omicron After Having Delta? Expert Clarifies
It is possible to get infected with Omicron after having been infected with the Delta variant of the coronavirus. This opinion was expressed by virologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, and professor Anatoly Altshtein, a leading researcher at the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology.
"A person who has recently had Delta is unlikely to be infected with Omicron immediately. The immunity from the Delta variant will certainly provide some protection. And even if a person gets reinfected, their illness will likely take a different course," the expert noted.
According to RIA FAN, after some time, the immunity from Delta, according to the virologist, will weaken, and Omicron will penetrate the human body, as it is highly contagious. However, due to the previous infection, the coronavirus illness will likely progress more easily for the patient.
