Biden Announces ISIS Leader Killed by US Forces
The US military has conducted an operation in northwestern Syria, resulting in the killing of the leader of the Islamic State terrorist organization. This was announced by US President Joe Biden in a written statement released by the White House press office on Thursday, according to apnews.com.
“Last night, at my direction, US military forces successfully carried out a counterterrorism operation in northwestern Syria to protect Americans and our allies, as well as reinforce security around the world,” the document states. It clarifies that the operation resulted in the death of ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi, who became the group's leader on October 31, 2019.
Additionally, family members, including women and children, were also killed in the bombing. In total, 13 people lost their lives in the operation, including six children and four women.
“All Americans have successfully returned from the operation,” President Biden stated.
