Taliban Appoints First Women to Leadership Positions in Afghanistan

Members of the radical Taliban movement have announced for the first time the appointment of women to leadership positions in Afghanistan following their takeover of power in the country, reports Iz.ru.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, February 1, by Zabihullah Mujahid, the deputy minister of information and culture in the Taliban-formed interim government, via Twitter.

It was noted that Dr. Malalai Rahimi has been appointed as the director of the Malalay Specialized Maternity Hospital in Kabul, which is the only obstetric-gynecological facility of its kind in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Dr. Aryan has been appointed as the director of a gynecological clinic in the Shahrar neighborhood of the capital.
