Russian Authorities Estimate Citizens' Crypto Assets at $200 Billion: Bloomberg
Russian citizens possess cryptocurrency assets valued at $214 billion, or over 16.5 trillion rubles. This information is reported by Bloomberg, citing estimates from Russian government officials.
According to the publication, this amount constitutes approximately 12% of the total value of all global cryptocurrency assets or one-third of the market capitalization of the main Russian stock index.
The agency notes that Russian authorities do not wish to impose a direct ban on cryptocurrency but intend to regulate this sector due to the significant savings of Russians.
The evaluation of cryptocurrency assets was conducted in January 2022, based on the analysis of IP addresses of major users on crypto exchanges. The publication clarifies that the information was provided by two sources who have worked with the Russian government and the Kremlin.
