Protests Erupt in Georgia as Residents Demand Lower Prices

Residents of four cities in Georgia—Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Poti, and Kobuleti—have taken to the streets in protest due to rising prices in the country. This was reported by a Sputnik Georgia correspondent from the scene of the events.

Several dozen people held placards with slogans such as “Raise Salaries,” “The Authorities Are Laughing at Us,” “What News Is There About Job Placement?” and “Cabbage Prices Have Increased by 80%.” According to the protesters, Georgia has found itself among the top ten countries whose residents are seeking asylum abroad. “Georgia is becoming a country for pensioners. The youth are leaving. Intelligent, strong, and working-age people are fleeing the country. This is a complete disaster,” said activist Georgi Mumladze.

The protesters are demanding that the authorities change the policy of raising tariffs and eradicate corruption, which they claim has resurfaced in the country. “People were promised a 50% reduction in tariffs and a reduction in fuel prices by at least one lari,” stated Irakli Nadiradze, a member of the opposition United National Movement party.

Police patrol and security service personnel have been mobilized at the protest sites. The demonstrations are being conducted without any disruptions.
