Civil Contract Party Holds Closed Session with Vahagn Khachaturyan
The deputies of the National Assembly's Civil Contract Party are holding a closed session in parliament, attended by the Minister of High Technology Industry and a potential candidate for the presidency, Vahagn Khachaturyan. This information has been reported by a 24News journalist.
It is worth noting that on Tuesday morning, National Assembly President Alen Simonyan signed the protocol for the termination of President Armen Sarkissian's powers, after which he assumed the duties of interim head of state. In his place, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hakob Arshakyan, has been appointed as the acting spokesperson of parliament.
Vahagn Khachaturyan, an economist by profession, is reportedly the candidate for the presidency proposed by the Civil Contract Party. Following the termination of Armen Sarkissian's powers, the parliament will elect a new president no sooner than 25 days and no later than 35 days afterward. Since Armenia operates under a parliamentary governance model, the President of the Republic is elected by the parliament for a term of seven years.
