We Have the Opportunity to Restore the Negotiation Process: Sargsyan

In my deep conviction, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is not resolved. And this is not just my belief; it is also reflected in the statements of the co-chairs,” said the third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, in an interview.

“I have answered this question several times and stated the following: this government is incapable of doing that. I will find opportunities to elaborate further, but I believe that the part of our society that considers Artsakh to be Armenian, that part which believes we are capable of standing upright, I call upon all those people to unite and demand that this political beggary be stopped. Begging for peace has never brought peace, it has never brought peace. What I am saying is not that we should not strive for peace, on the contrary, in everything I have said, both previously and now, I ask that no one looks for any element of revanche. What I am saying is that despite being shattered, despite being capitulated, we have the opportunity to restore the negotiation process,” Sargsyan said.

When asked if we have that opportunity, Sargsyan responded, “Yes, we have that opportunity, and we must demand again that these authorities take this path. Our demand is the right of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh to self-determination. Yes, that right is inalienable. And for a very long time, the international community has recognized that. If we need to act in a way that prompts the international community to change its mind, that is already not the problem of the international community; that is our problem,” he added.
