VIDEO: Khachatryan on Speculations About His Presidential Candidacy

Minister of High-Tech Industry Vahagn Khachatryan discussed the speculation regarding his potential candidacy for President of Armenia during a press conference at the conference titled “The Prospects of Artificial Intelligence in Armenia.”

“At this moment, there is no decision from the Speaker of the National Assembly that would terminate the powers of the current president. Those discussions should take place tomorrow, and it wouldn’t be fitting to comment today, as the person still has the opportunity and can withdraw the application,” he stated.

When asked for clarification—meaning, was an offer made—Vahagn Khachatryan responded, “In theory, it should be circulated. Let me put it simply, considering all the criteria that exist—over 40 years old, an Armenian citizen, a person who has gone through the process, and also today’s minister. Under those conditions, it seems one could assume that I might find myself on that list,” he said.
