The Myth About Manvel Grigoryan's Case That Was Shouted About Has Burst: His Defender Announces Court Hearings Will Resume
The court hearings in the case of the former president of the YEKM (Union of Volunteer Militias), Lieutenant General Manvel Grigoryan, will continue in February, stated his legal defender, Levon Baghdasaryan, in a conversation with 168.am.
"The court hearings are set to resume, with a court date scheduled for February; there are fixed dates planned for intensive hearings. At this moment, we are at the stage of witness examination, and we will see how things unfold. I am currently unable to say how many witnesses have testified, but one thing is certain—the myth that the authorized bodies were shouting about in the case of Manvel Grigoryan has burst like a bubble. For example, during the court sessions, it came to light that the 'tushonka' of that soldier was brought from the border area to a pension, where it was 'artistically' depicted and presented as if it had been discovered at Manvel Grigoryan's home. Such things are surfacing with all their legal implications," Baghdasaryan noted.
According to the lawyer, by law, when a person dies, the case is dismissed. Given the prominence of the case, the defense side has requested that the case be examined until the end for acquittal purposes.
"I am confident that the case will be examined and that many questions will be answered," he emphasized.
Manvel Grigoryan was arrested in 2018, and his health condition gradually deteriorated, especially after the news of the relinquishment of Artsakh was announced. On November 19, 2020, the lieutenant general passed away in a hospital.
Manvel Grigoryan and his wife, Nazik Amiryann, have been charged under Articles 235, 1 and 2 of the RA Criminal Code (unlawfully obtaining, carrying, or transporting weapons and ammunition committed by a group of persons with prior agreement), as well as under Article 179, 3, 1 of the RA Criminal Code (the embezzlement of particularly large amounts of another's property entrusted to them through the method of embezzlement in collusion with a group of persons).
