Who Killed the 35-Year-Old Man? Investigative Committee Reveals Details

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has provided new details regarding the murder that occurred last night on Mashtots Avenue in Yerevan. We previously reported that Umria Sh., a resident of the Kotayk Province, was killed by around 8 knife wounds.

A resident of Yerevan has been suspected of the murder, who worked with the victim in a flower shop near the intersection of Mashtots Avenue and Amiryan Street.

According to preliminary information, on January 30, 2022, at approximately 01:15, a 29-year-old resident of Yerevan had an argument with a 35-year-old employee of the flower store in front of the flower shop located at the intersection of Amiryan and Mashtots streets. During the altercation, the suspect inflicted multiple knife wounds on the victim's body, intentionally causing his death, as stated in the Investigative Committee's announcement.

A criminal case has been initiated at the Investigative Committee under Article 104, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (murder). During the preliminary investigation, a site inspection was conducted, and the handle of the knife used in the crime, with blood-like traces, was discovered. Samples have been taken, witnesses questioned, and various expert examinations appointed.

The Investigative Committee informs that the 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of committing murder. He has been interrogated, providing self-incriminating testimony.

The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
