Kristinne Grigoryan Elected as Human Rights Defender, Sworn in from the National Assembly Podium
Kristinne Grigoryan has been elected as the Human Rights Defender. A total of 68 lawmakers voted in favor, with no votes against.
It is noteworthy that she was nominated by the ruling 'Civil Contract' faction of the National Assembly. Arman Tatoyan has held the position of Human Rights Defender since 2016. The Human Rights Defender is elected with at least three-fifths of the votes of all National Assembly members for a term of six years.
Kristinne Grigoryan has been elected for another six-year term as the Human Rights Defender. The rights of parliamentary immunity and the requirements of incompatibility apply to the Human Rights Defender. Any decisions regarding criminal prosecution or deprivation of liberty require the consent of the National Assembly by at least three-fifths of the total votes of parliament members.
It is worth noting that Grigoryan was appointed as Deputy Minister of Justice by a decision of the Prime Minister on July 3, 2019, and on April 6, 2021, she became the First Deputy Minister.
