UAE Authorities Prohibit Hobbyist Drone Launches

The authorities of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have banned the launch of drones for recreational purposes in response to recent attacks by Houthi rebels from the 'Ansar Allah' movement in northern Yemen. This information was released by the country's Ministry of Interior, as reported by RIA Novosti.

Previously, several drones simultaneously targeted multiple sites in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, including the construction zone for a new airport and fuel tanks near the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company's warehouses. The attacks resulted in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to six civilians. The Houthis claimed responsibility, stating that the attack was in retaliation for the UAE's military operations against them in Yemen.

The Ministry of Interior announced, "The ministry is suspending flight operations for drone owners, as well as flights of light sport aircraft," in a statement. It added that the order was coordinated with the UAE's Civil Aviation Authority and aims to ensure the safety of lives and property.

It was noted in the announcement that exceptions are made for organizations engaged in filming or advertising using drones; however, they will now need to obtain permission from the authorities for their activities.

In response to the drone launches towards Abu Dhabi by Yemeni insurgents, the Saudi and Emirati Air Force has intensified airstrikes on areas controlled by the Houthis in Yemen, particularly in the capital, Sana'a, where residential neighborhoods have come under bombardment, resulting in over 20 casualties.
