Taliban Delegation Heads to Oslo for Negotiations

The extremist Taliban movement, which seized power in Afghanistan, has sent a delegation to Oslo at the invitation of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to engage in negotiations with representatives from several countries and Afghan civic-political forces.

The information was shared on Twitter by a Taliban representative. “The senior leadership of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, led by Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, has departed for Norway on a special flight, where talks will take place with representatives from various countries and several Afghans regarding the provision of humanitarian aid, as well as political, educational, and economic issues,” the Taliban representative wrote.

Earlier, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had announced that it invited the Taliban delegation to Oslo from January 23 to 25 to participate in negotiations with Norwegian authorities, members of the international community, and representatives of Afghan civil society.

The Norwegian foreign ministry emphasized that the planned meetings do not imply recognition of the Taliban's interim government formed in Afghanistan.
