Red Cross Delivers Food and Hygiene Supplies to Residents of Nerkhin Hand Village

Due to weather conditions, several villages in the Goris and Kapan regions have faced isolation and humanitarian issues. Khachatur Baghdasaryan, the administrative head of Nerkhin Hand, informed "Hraparak" that humanitarian aid was received a few days ago.

"The weather does not hinder us; everyone is safe and has provided for themselves in every way. The Red Cross brought assistance three days ago, including food and hygiene supplies. The educators are from the village; they are locals, and the school is operational, so we currently do not have serious problems," he said.

There is no grocery store in the village, and residents rely on two grocery stores in the neighboring village of Tsavi, requiring a 4 km walk if necessary. A public transport route also operates, transporting residents to Jakatin before they can continue to Kapan.

"We are using an alternative route for travel. Once the weather changed, they will open the newly constructed road, which will be operational starting tomorrow, even if it is unpaved. Today, the bus is also running through Tsavi, Hand, and Jakatin, and from there, it transports people to Kapan in UAZ vehicles. They go and return every two hours," he added.

Nerkhin Hand has become border-adjacent after the war. Before the conflict, villagers utilized the pastures of Artsakh's administrative territory, but now they rely on the village's administrative area. As a border village, they are exempt from land taxes and receive compensation for electricity.

Nerkhin Hand is one of six villages in the Kapan community of Syunik, where humanitarian issues arose due to illegal actions by the Azerbaijani side along the Kapan-Jakatin road.
