Payments for Gravesites to Be Done Online

The Yerevan Prosecutor has sent a proposal to the Mayor of Yerevan to put an end to ongoing systematic criminal violations in the allocation of land for burials and other services in various cemeteries of Yerevan. This information was reported by the press service of the prosecutor's office.

It is suggested to survey the cemetery areas by licensed surveyors, to delineate the plots that have not yet been allocated separately according to the dimensions established by law, to number the plots, and to provide them for burial in sequential order. "This procedure will eliminate the risk of allocating a 'better' or preferred area to certain individuals as a result of corrupt mechanisms, providing areas larger than the established limits, or allocating lands outside the cemetery as burial sites owned by other individuals," believes Yerevan Prosecutor Sevak Hovhannisyan.

It has also been proposed to develop a mechanism for verifying the authenticity of documents submitted prior to granting permission for burial in cemeteries. According to the prosecutor's office, this will eliminate the possibility of cemetery managers providing burial plots through official forgery.

It has been proposed that the Mayor of Yerevan also revoke the authority granted by the statute to the cemetery manager to provide business services. An electronic platform is set to be created for such services, and payments will be collected exclusively through electronic methods to the account of the "Special Population Service" municipal non-commercial organization.

The Yerevan Prosecutor has also raised the issue of the further suitability of dishonest employees working in the field. The prosecutor’s office reports that the Mayor of Yerevan has already responded to the proposal. A preliminary discussion has taken place between the Mayor of Yerevan and the Deputy Prosecutor of Yerevan.
