«I Hope That This Time Armenia and Azerbaijan Will Establish Stable Peace Through Compromise» - Armen Sarkissian

The President of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, gave an interview to Sky News Arabia during his working visit to the United Arab Emirates, where he specifically addressed regional developments and the relations between Armenia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan.

Noting that the path to a stable future is through negotiations, the president stated, “I hope that this time Armenia and Azerbaijan will establish stable peace through compromise. However, it will not be easy.”

Regarding relations with Turkey, President Sarkissian emphasized that pragmatism and stability imply having normal relations with neighbors, and there is no other way but to engage in dialogue. At the same time, according to the president, historical realities cannot be ignored, and it is impossible to move forward without the support of the Diaspora, which has largely been shaped by the consequences of the genocide. Armenia is a small country, but Armenians are a global nation.

“I hope that one day Armenians and Turks will succeed in this matter, but to do so, we cannot ignore historical realities. To succeed, we must be pragmatic in order to build stable and firm relations between Armenia and Turkey, as well as in the region,” stated President Sarkissian.
