Constitutional Court to Hear Appeal on Alen Simonyan's Election as NA President
The Constitutional Court will hear the appeal filed by the "Hayastan" and "Pativ Unem" factions to recognize the decision of Alen Simonyan's election as President of the National Assembly as unconstitutional in an open-door format. This was stated to NEWS.am by Aram Vardevanyan, a member of the "Hayastan" faction.
"The National Assembly, as the responding party, had requested a postponement of the session. It was unexpected what this was based on. The Constitutional Court accepted the request for postponement and set a date for before April 5. The hearings will be conducted verbally on that day," noted Vardevanyan.
The deputy emphasized that the reasoning provided by the NA representative for postponing the session was unclear. "I saw no grounds for that. Both parties were fully prepared. The postponement was also unclear," he added.
It is worth recalling that the opposition factions have filed an appeal with the Constitutional Court to declare the NA decision regarding Alen Simonyan's election as NA President unconstitutional and invalid. They argue that the election of the NA President violated the Constitution since the presence of their two candidates, detained deputies Mkhitar Zakaryan and Artur Sarkisyan of the "Hayastan" alliance, was not ensured during the voting.
