Badasyan Excluded the Possibility of Iranian Trucks Preferring the Goris-Kapan Road

On the Goris-Kapan road, the Armenian side has already set up a customs checkpoint. This was stated by the Head of the State Revenue Committee, Rustam Badasyan, during a press briefing with journalists at the National Assembly today, on January 19.

"Since it is possible for Iranian trucks to pass through there, however, the flow is largely already moving along the new road. For example, certain functions are being carried out regarding the customs clearance and registration of passing trucks at the Meghri customs checkpoint. And since Armenian vehicles are not entering, there is no registration in that regard," he said.

Badasyan noted that no customs duties are being levied from Iranian trucks at that location. When asked about the purpose of the customs checkpoint in that case, he replied, "If there is a point from which it is theoretically possible for vehicles to come, the necessity of customs supervision may arise theoretically, and that customs supervision must be carried out."

Rustam Badasyan excluded the possibility that the majority of Iranian trucks would at some point prefer the Goris-Kapan road over the newly constructed alternative Tatev-Kapan road. "Trucks are passing through the new road. There is also talk of a new road that will completely bypass those turns. After that, I believe the Goris-Kapan road will essentially be closed and there will be no traffic at all," he stated.
