Turkish Military Base in Iraq Struck by Rockets for the Second Time

The Turkish Zilkan military base located northeast of Mosul, Iraq, has been subjected to a second rocket attack within the last two days, according to RIA Novosti citing the Iraqi Shafaq news agency.

“Three rockets fell in the area where the Turkish base is located northeast of Mosul. The Turkish artillery responded with return fire,” said a source from the Iraqi agency.

According to the source, no Turkish servicemen at the military base were harmed in the bombardment. Earlier on the morning of January 15, the Turkish Zilkan military base was again targeted, this time by two rockets from a 'Katyusha' launcher.

The presence of Turkish soldiers at the Zilkan military base northeast of Mosul has long been a contentious issue between Baghdad and Ankara, which justifies its presence with the necessity to combat the Kurdistan Workers' Party, banned in Turkey.
