Tokaev Issues Several Directives
The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokaev, met with the leadership of the law enforcement agencies on Saturday, during which he tasked them with determining the exact number of casualties in the unrest. This was reported by TASS, citing the president's press service.
As a result of the consultation, the head of state issued several specific directives. Special attention was paid to the comprehensive investigation of the tragic events that took place in Kazakhstan, particularly in Almaty, the precise determination of fatalities among the civilian population, and the development of a new regulatory framework for the coordination of law enforcement actions in critical situations.
It was reported to the president on the progress of the preliminary investigations into the events that occurred in several regions during the first ten days of January, the results of the special operations conducted, as well as other measures for ensuring public safety and law and order in the country.
Kassym-Jomart Tokaev instructed the Secretary of the Security Council to expedite the establishment of special operations forces and to present specific proposals for the reform of the national security system. According to the press service, the president also emphasized "the importance of preventing violations of citizens' rights during anti-terrorist operations and conducting investigative actions."
